Before law school, Robert Scott Ward honed his storytelling and research skills as an award-winning investigative journalist. His path toward a law career began with an arrest for a crime he did not commit. Robert's research and investigation resulted in an acquittal. This convinced him to attorney to represent others who need a lawyer who cares for them.
This background fuels Robert’s goal to set the gold standard for client-centered advocacy. His attention to detail, ability to absorb large amounts of data, and love for storytelling wins in court. He has spent his professional life developing research skills, attention to detail, knowledge of law, and narratives to achieve clients’ goals.

He began his legal career at the Office of Public Defender in Martinsville and opened his own law practice in March 2025.

A native of the Mississippi Delta, Robert earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law, where he graduated with honors and was a John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellow. During law school, Robert was a law clerk for the Public Defender Service of the District of Columbia and the Mississippi Center for Justice. He represented tenants facing eviction in the Landlord & Tenant Branch of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and assisted whistleblowers in a Whistleblower Protection Clinic.
He received a Bachelor’s of Arts in English literature and journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Masters of Public Policy and Administration from Mississippi State University.
